Written and first recorded in the mid-30s by Yiorgos Batis, a colorful character who played the miniature bouzouki called a baglama, and sang mostly cheerful made-up ditties about the hash-smoking lifestyle. This 9/8 karsilamas dance tune is typical: a mash-up of common-stock lyrics extolling that exotic, albeit down-and-dirty cliche street gamin…
